Description: The common warthog (Phacochoerus africanus) is a fascinating wild animal that inhabits the vast, arid landscapes south of the Sahara. Known for its distinctive facial warts, especially in males, warthogs typically live in small groups and primarily feed on grasses. Their natural enemies include lions, wild dogs, hyenas, and eagles. In the past, the desert warthog Phacochoerus aethiopicus aethiopicus also lived in the Cape Province but was exterminated at the beginning of the 20th century.
