Description: The Common Warthog (Phacochoerus africanus) inhabits the open, dry landscapes of Africa south of the Sahara. These animals are characterized by their prominent facial warts, especially noticeable in males. Warthogs typically live in small groups and mainly feed on grasses. Their main predators include lions, wild dogs, hyenas, and eagles. In the Cape Province, there used to be the Desert Warthog Phacochoerus aethiopicus aethiopicus, which was eradicated in the early 20th century.
