Graceful white tern perched on a thin branch (00005635)
Description: The white tern (Gygis alba rothschildi) is a delicate, snow-white seabird with large, black-rimmed eyes. These graceful birds look like they're straight out of a fairy tale, especially when they soar majestically against the deep blue sky. White terns hunt fish by flying far out over the sea and then diving into the water without landing. During the day, they catch their prey, and in the evening, they return to the island to feed their young. Thousands of white tern pairs breed on the Midway Islands, showcasing a fascinating way of life.
