Description: The majestic White Chinned Petrel, scientifically known as Procellaria aequinoctialis, is a fascinating seabird to behold as it soars over the ocean. With a wingspan of 1.3 to 1.4 meters and weighing up to 1.4 kilograms, they are smaller than albatrosses but no less impressive. These birds can be found year-round in the Cape region, especially around Dyer Island in South Africa. White Chinned Petrels are known to follow ships, particularly fishing vessels, and are at risk due to their diving abilities and the threat posed by longlines.
