Description: The Sooty Terns, scientifically known as Sterna fuscata oahuensis, are fascinating seabirds that nest on the islands of Eastern and Spit in the North Pacific. With approximately 50,000 pairs, they form an impressive colony. The female lays a single egg on the sand or the hard runway of the island. The chicks are absolutely adorable and are lovingly cared for by their parents. Sooty Terns spend up to three years continuously at sea and are excellent hunters.
