Description: The Barbary Lion, scientifically known as Panthera leo leo, is a fascinating subspecies of lion. This particular specimen, with its impressive mane, once roamed the Atlas Mountains of North Africa until it became extinct in the wild in 1910. However, a few Barbary Lions can still be found in zoos and private collections. These animals are the result of successful breeding programs, although they are no longer purebred.
