Brave cheetah offspring tackling tall tree trunk (00016035)
Description: The young cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is bravely attempting to climb the smooth tree trunk. This seven-week-old cub is from a private cheetah breeding station near the Addo Elephant Park in South Africa. These cheetahs are being nurtured here with the intention of releasing them back into the wild. Cheetahs are the fastest land animals, capable of reaching speeds of up to 120 km/h. Unfortunately, wild cheetah populations have drastically declined due to habitat loss, poaching for zoos, and illegal fur trade.
