Rare King Cheetah in Captivity at Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre (00012579)

King Cheetah in the dry bush

Description: The King Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus jubatus) is a rare variant of the cheetah, seen in the dry bush. This particular specimen is in captivity. Cheetahs are nearly extinct in Asia and highly endangered in Africa. They are known as the fastest land mammals with long legs. The King Cheetah differs from the normal spotted cheetah with larger black spots that merge into stripes. At the Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre in the Kapama Private Game Reserve, not only bred cheetahs are taken care of, but also rescued animals, to be released back into the wild later on.
