Majestic African Elephants Drinking in their Natural Habitat (00016117)
Description: African elephants, also known as Loxodonta africana, are the largest land animals on Earth. There are two subspecies: the savanna elephant Loxodonta africana africana and the forest elephant Loxodonta africana cyclotis. These majestic creatures live in the dry forests and savannas of Africa. Standing nearly three meters tall and weighing up to 7.5 tons, they exude an impressive presence. The cruel ivory trade has severely threatened their population, but since the international ban in 1989, their protection has been strengthened. However, it is primarily the loss of their habitat due to agricultural expansion that endangers these fascinating animals.
