Description: African Elephant/African Elephant/Loxodonta africana. This stunning image captures a majestic herd of African elephants in their natural habitat. Elephants are the largest land animals on Earth, consisting of two subspecies: the African savanna elephant Loxodonta africana africana and the African forest elephant Loxodonta africana cyclotis. The savanna elephant inhabits the dry forests and savannas of Africa, impressive with its towering shoulder height of nearly three meters and a weight of up to 7.5 tons. Despite the international ban on ivory trade since 1989, habitat loss due to the expansion of agricultural areas remains a serious threat to African elephants.
