Warthog in Addo Elephant Park

Description: The Common Warthog (Phacochoerus africanus) lives in the open, dry landscapes of Africa south of the Sahara. The animals are named after the facial warts, which are especially pronounced in males. Warthogs generally live in small groups, are vegetarians, and mainly feed on grass. Lions, wild dogs, hyenas, and eagles are the main predators of warthogs. In the Cape Province, there used to be a Desert Warthog (Phacochoerus aethiopicus aethiopicus), which was exterminated in the early 20th century.
