Description: The impressive warthog (Phacochoerus africanus) is a characteristic animal of the open landscapes of Africa south of the Sahara. With distinctive facial warts, especially in males, it captivates with its appearance. Living in small groups, warthogs mainly feed on grass. Their natural enemies include lions, wild dogs, hyenas, and eagles. The Cape Province used to be home to the desert warthog (Phacochoerus aethiopicus aethiopicus), which was eradicated at the beginning of the 20th century.
