A fascinating White chinned Petrel in acute danger (00004505)
Description: The White chinned Petrel (Procellaria aequinoctialis) is a fascinating seabird that appears to hover in the air. With a wingspan of 1.3 to 1.4 meters and weighing up to 1.4 kilograms, they are smaller than albatrosses. These birds can be seen year-round in the Cape region of South Africa. They are known to follow fishing vessels and are particularly at risk from the so-called longlines, where they can get caught and drown. A sad reality that endangers their existence and urgently requires measures to protect them.
