Description: The African Elephant, scientifically known as Loxodonta africana, is the largest land mammal on Earth. This majestic creature is divided into two subspecies: the Savanna Elephant Loxodonta africana africana and the Forest Elephant Loxodonta africana cyclotis. African elephants are threatened by ivory trade and habitat loss. Since 1989, international trade in ivory has been banned. This photo captures the impressive rear view of an elephant in the early morning light at Addo Elephant National Park.
